While working at Ryder, Mr. Burns was a three-time recipient of Financial World magazine's CEO of the Year Award and was also named its CEO of the Decade in its Transportation: Freight & Leasing sector. Prior to joining Ryder, he was a member of senior financial management at Mobil Oil Corporation. Mr. Burns has also had extensive experience on the boards of several U.S. publicly traded companies in a diverse range of industries. He served long tenures on the boards of Pfizer Inc.; J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.; Stanley Black & Decker; and J.C. Penney Company. On each of those public boards of directors, Mr. Burns served as chairman of the audit or compensation committees for most of his tenure.Mr. Burns is a Life Trustee of the University of Miami in Florida and he has been active in charitable, cultural and civic organizations in Florida and nationally. He has served on the national boards of United Way of America, American Red Cross, National Urban League and Boy Scouts of America, as well as on the Foundation Board for the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award. Mr. Burns has also been the co-chairman of The Business Roundtable and chairman of its Health and Retirement Task Force.
